Unitor
The Unitor REDD+ project protects forests located in one of the regions with the highest deforestation rate in the Amazon Biome: the municipality of Lábrea, in Amazonas.
Lábrea is geographically located near the "Arc of Deforestation" and neighbors other highly deforested municipalities, as well as the Ituxi and Evergreen projects.
Our challenge
Before the project was implemented, the Unitor area suffered a deforestation rate of 0.81% annually, which is equivalent to 194 soccer fields being cut down every year. The main factor that led the region to lead the deforestation statistics was cattle-raising activity.
Our project
In 2018, we began monitoring fauna, flora, and forest integrity, carbon stock measurements, and developing income alternatives for extractive communities.
