The REDD+ Cikel project is a positive influence in the Paragominas region and sends a very powerful message: standing forests are a real possibility for income diversification for companies.

The first Avoided Planned Deforestation (APD) project in Brazil prevents the deforestation of 27,000 hectares of native Amazon Rainforest, brings development to four communities, and protects species threatened with extinction.

The Challenge of Preservation in Paragominas

Pará is one of the states with the highest deforestation rates in Brazil, having already converted 70% of its original land cover. The region faces intense deforestation pressure, which influences the surrounding areas to continue contributing to greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil.

The first Avoided Planned Deforestation (APD) project in Brazil

Legal deforestation for cattle ranching on the CBNS property was considered an alternative during an economic crisis. However, with a visionary decision, CBNS decided to initiate a preservation project and generate carbon credits, thereby influencing the surrounding area and ensuring the existence of 27,000 hectares of forest essential for the development of communities and the survival of hundreds of species of fauna and flora.
