Weeks after COP27 concluded, much of what was discussed in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, remains unresolved. No major pragmatic commitments were made by global leaders, and consensus has emerged that this so-called “Implementation COP” may not have implemented much. There was even a moment when G20 countries appeared to consider abandoning the 1.5ºC target—though this did not proceed thanks to public pressure and resistance from climate-vulnerable nations.
