During the first week of meetings at COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, Brazil announced new commitments to combat climate change: the national target for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction increased from 43% to 50% by 2030. The country also adopted a new goal: to reduce methane emissions by 30%—a gas mainly emitted in Brazil through livestock. Additionally, the Brazilian delegation advanced its target of ending illegal deforestation from 2030 to 2028.
