“For the first time in the history of UN climate conferences, fossil fuels are explicitly named as villains in the climate crisis.” — From CNN in Glasgow.

After a marathon of negotiations, COP26 approved on Saturday (13), in Glasgow, Scotland, a global climate agreement that includes, for the first time ever, a direct reference to fossil fuels and their role in the climate crisis.

The final text explicitly cites coal—the largest individual contributor to climate change. In all 25 previous COPs, no agreement had mentioned coal, oil, gas, or even fossil fuels in general as drivers—let alone the main cause—of the climate crisis.
