About Operation Greenwashing

The investigation involves several landowners in the region, including 3 of the 55 landowners for whom Carbonext has provided carbon credit project development services.

When developing a carbon project, Carbonext conducts due diligence on the properties where the projects will be implemented.

For such due diligence, Carbonext relies on official documents issued by public authorities and presented by the landowners—similar to the process followed in most real estate transactions, such as leases and rental agreements.

Therefore, Carbonext’s responsibility is limited to verifying documents that carry public faith, as well as carrying out activities directly related to the carbon project: preparing project reports, registering the project, and commercializing the credits generated.

Carbonext was not named in Operation Greenwashing. Upon learning of the operation through the media, the company promptly contacted the authorities to offer its full support in the investigation.

Carbonext has already notified the landowners involved of the termination of their contracts, in accordance with its Compliance provisions. Legal action is also being evaluated.

We believe that investigations led by law enforcement and the Public Prosecutor’s Office can help improve the business environment in the Amazon region. Carbonext therefore commends the actions taken by the authorities.
