Our Founders
Janaina Dallan
Founder and Co-CEOJanaina Dallan is a forest engineer graduated from ESALQ/USP, with an MBA and over 22 years of experience in the carbon market. She is the founder of Carbonext, one of Brazil’s leading companies focused on carbon projects, and has built a solid international career. Janaina has worked at European carbon firms such as One Carbon, Orbeo, Ecofys, and Golder Associates. She is also a member of the UN external expert team for carbon credit projects (UNFCCC/RIT) and president of the Brazilian Alliance for Nature-Based Solutions (Aliança Brasil NBS).
Janaina is a member of the Integrity Council for Voluntary Carbon Markets and participates in the stakeholder forum of the VCMI (Voluntary Carbon Market Integrity Initiative). She is also a member of CONAREDD (Advisory Committee for the Implementation of Activities to Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation), which coordinates Brazil’s efforts to reduce emissions caused by deforestation.
Luciano Fonseca
Founder and Co-CEOLuciano Fonseca is an economist graduated from USP, with a master’s degree in Political Science and over 15 years of experience in private equity, having served as VP and director at Pátria Investimentos. With broad experience in business creation, process development, and team building, he led the structuring of Carbonext’s operations in just 12 months. Luciano has extensive experience in M&A (mergers and acquisitions) and was also responsible for structuring real estate investment funds and carbon-focused farmland investment vehicles.
As Carbonext’s co-founder, he plays a key leadership role in driving innovative solutions in the carbon market.
Our Story
Carbonext is a pioneering company in nature-based solutions to combat climate change. It combines technology with financial products to generate revenue streams that sustain activities aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The company was founded in 2010 by Janaina Dallan, a forest engineer from ESALQ/USP with an MBA in Environmental Economics from Ibrades.
In 2021, Luciano Corrêa da Fonseca—an economist and political science master from USP, and Janaina’s brother—joined the company. Coming from Pátria Investimentos, Luciano led two investment rounds at Carbonext, enabling the company’s expansion and diversification.
Today, Carbonext operates 10 REDD+ projects (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) across Acre, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Pará, and Rondônia. It also works in areas such as carbon credit trading, emissions inventories, ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation), and ALM (Agricultural Land Management).
Carbonext is headquartered in São Paulo, with offices in Piracicaba and Belém, and has a highly qualified team of forest and environmental engineers, biologists, geographers, anthropologists, and lawyers, as well as business administrators and economists who oversee all aspects and phases of these projects.
